Padre Pio Prayer
for Those in Need of Healing and Comfort

St Padre PioJesus Christ and Padre Pio Prayer

Many people search for a powerful healing prayer connected to St. Padre Pio when facing illness, surgery, or chronic pain. This is understandable—his life demonstrated that God works through suffering while also granting grace and sometimes miraculous healing.

The following prayer draws on the spirituality of Padre Pio and can be prayed for yourself or on behalf of someone you love.

Padre Pio Prayer

Padre Pio Prayer for the Sick

Heavenly Father, I thank you for loving me. I thank you for sending your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, to the world to save and to set me free. I trust in your power and grace that sustain and restore me. I offer this powerful healing prayer in gratitude to you, asking for healing in mind, body, soul, and spirit.

Loving Heavenly Father, touch me now with your healing hands, for I believe that your will is for me to be well in mind, body, soul and spirit.

Through the intercession Padre Pio, who performed miraculous works of healing through faith and compassion, I entrust my well-being to your divine care.

Cover me with the most precious blood of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, from the top of my head to the soles of my feet.

Cast anything that should not be in me. Root out any unhealthy and abnormal cells. Open any blocked arteries or veins and rebuild and replenish any damaged areas. Remove all inflammation and cleanse any infection by the power of Jesus' precious blood. Let the fire of your healing love pass through my entire body to heal and make new any diseased areas so that my body will function the way you created it to function. Touch also my mind and my emotion, even the deepest recesses of my heart. Saturate my entire being with your presence, love, joy and peace and draw me ever closer to you every moment of my life. And Heavenly Father, fill me with your Holy Spirit and empower me to do your works so that my life will bring glory and honor to your holy name. I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen

This prayer can be adapted to mention specific conditions. Some people add lines such as:

  • “Heal any abnormal cells in my body”
  • “Renew any damaged areas in my heart and blood vessels”
  • “Restore my entire body to health according to Your will”

The key is approaching God with humility, recognizing that He is the divine physician and that all healing—whether through medicine, prayer, or both—ultimately comes from Him.

Prayer for the Intercession of Padre Pio

In Catholic tradition, asking for a saint's intercession means praying with that saint to Jesus, not praying to the saint as if they were God. Saints are friends in heaven who continue to love and pray for those on earth.

This prayer asks St. Pio to join your petition and present it before the throne of God:

St. Pio of Pietrelcina, God generously blessed you with gifts of the Holy Spirit. He gave Saint Pio the grace to share in the wounds of Christ and to spend your whole life leading souls to salvation.

You were a powerful witness in the confessional, where you guided countless men and women to repentance. You offered the Holy Eucharist with intense devotion, showing us what it means to remain united to Jesus in holy love.

I now place before you my own intention: (pause to silently present your need—healing, conversion, guidance, provision, or any other request).

Through your intercession, I confidently beseech God to grant me the grace I most need. If it is for healing, may the Lord restore me. If it is for peace, may He calm my anxious heart. If it is for a loved one, may He draw them close.

I ask this not because I deserve it, but because I trust in God's mercy and in your prayers before His throne. Through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Padre Pio Prayer to Jesus Christ in Suffering

Padre Pio knew suffering intimately. Beyond the physical pain of the stigmata, he endured illness, spiritual darkness, and opposition from those who doubted his authenticity. Yet he consistently united his trials with the Passion of Jesus Christ, believing that suffering offered in love participates in the work of salvation.

In August 1918, shortly before receiving the visible stigmata, he experienced what his spiritual director called a transverberation—a mystical piercing that left a physical wound in his side. His letters reveal a man acquainted with both agony and grace.

This prayer reflects his spirituality for those who suffer:

O Lord Jesus Christ, You know how my weak nature rebels against this cross. When pain overwhelms me, when fear grips my soul, when I cannot see the purpose in my trial, I cling to You alone.

I offer You my suffering—not because I am strong, but because You are merciful. Unite my small trials with Your saving passion, Your tears in the garden, Your wounds on the cross. Let nothing be wasted.

Grant me the grace to flee from sin, which wounds Your sacred heart more than any physical affliction. Fill me with holy love when I feel only emptiness. Give me courage when darkness surrounds me. Let me trust You even when divine consolation seems far away.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I do not ask to understand my suffering. I ask only to remain near You in it. Let me rest in the deepest recesses of Your Heart, where all is peace.

When late and death approaches, when life passes and eternity approaches, may I find You waiting—my Savior, my Lord Jesus Christ, my all.

Amen.

This prayer acknowledges the reality that our fragile nature often struggles against suffering. Padre Pio himself once wrote that he would beg God to take away the stigmata because of the terror they caused him. Yet he persevered, teaching us that holiness does not mean the absence of struggle but rather trust amid the storm.

Prayer for Trust and Confidence in God

One of Padre Pio's most famous pieces of spiritual advice was simple: “Pray, hope, and don't worry.” He repeated this guidance countless times to those who came seeking counsel.

This prayer asks for the firm love and confident trust that characterized his spirituality:

Loving Heavenly Father, You see all my fears, my anxieties, my struggles to trust in Your providence. Today I come before You asking for unshakable confidence in Your divine mercy.

When illness threatens, help me believe that You are the Lord of life. When finances fail, remind me that You feed the sparrows and care even more for Your children. When loneliness weighs on me, fill me with the knowledge of Your presence. When my whole life seems uncertain, anchor me in Your infallible words of promise.

I ardently desire to love You with all my heart, with all my soul, and with all my strength. Help me accept my daily crosses with humility, seeing them not as punishments but as pathways to greater union with You and the unique joy of sharing in Your Son's redemption.

When I receive Jesus Christ in Holy Communion, let that eucharistic communion strengthen my faith and deepen my trust. May I never doubt that You hear me, that You love me, and that You work all things for my good.

Heavenly Father entrusts me to Your tender care. Grant me the courage to persevere in hope until the day I see You face to face. Through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen.

The great privilege of Christian prayer is not that God always answers as we expect, but that He always hears and never abandons His children. Padre Pio lived this truth through decades of suffering and service.

Seek and Receive Prayer

O my Lord Jesus Christ, who has said, "In truth I tell you, ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you" here am I knocking and asking for your grace...

Amen

Stay With Me, Lord

Padre Pio's famous “Stay with me, Lord” prayer expresses his intense devotion to the Holy Eucharist. He believed that when we receive Holy Communion, Jesus Himself enters our very being—body, blood, soul, and divinity.

This adapted prayer is traditionally prayed after receiving the Lord in the Mass. But can be said by anyone at any time:

Stay with me, Lord, for it is necessary to have You present so that I do not forget You. You know how easily I abandon You.

Stay with me, Lord, because I am weak and I need Your strength, that I may not fall so often.

Stay with me, Lord, for You are my life, and without You, I am without fervor.

Stay with me, Lord, for You are my light, and without You, I am in darkness.

Stay with me, Lord, to show me Your will.

Stay with me, Lord, so that I hear Your voice and follow You.

Stay with me, Lord, for I desire to love You very much, and always be in Your company.

Stay with me, Lord, if You wish me to be faithful to You.

Stay with me, Lord, for as poor as my soul is, I want it to be a place of consolation for You, a nest of love.

Stay with me, Jesus, for it is getting late and the day is coming to a close, and life passes, death, judgment, eternity approaches. It is necessary to renew my strength, so that I will not stop along the way and for that, I need You.

It is getting late and death approaches, I fear the darkness, the temptations, the dryness, the cross, the sorrows. O how I need You, my Jesus, in this night of exile!

Stay with me tonight, Jesus, in life with all it’s dangers. I need You.

Let me recognize You as Your disciples did at the breaking of the bread, so that the Eucharistic Communion be the Light which disperses the darkness, the force which sustains me, the unique joy of my heart.

Stay with me, Lord, because at the hour of my death, I want to remain united to You, if not by communion, at least by grace and love.

Stay with me, Jesus, I do not ask for divine consolation, because I do not merit it, but the gift of Your Presence, oh yes, I ask this of You!

Stay with me, Lord, for it is You alone I look for, Your Love, Your Grace, Your Will, Your Heart, Your Spirit, because I love You and ask no other reward but to love You more and more.

With a firm love, I will love You with all my heart while on earth and continue to love You perfectly du

With a firm love, I will love You with all my heart while on earth and continue to love You perfectly during all eternity.

Amen

Padre Pio Prayer to the Guardian Angel

Padre Pio had a remarkable devotion to guardian angels. He believed these heavenly messengers were assigned by God to protect, guide, and intercede for each person from birth until death. He encouraged the faithful to speak to their guardian angels simply and often.

According to accounts, Padre Pio would sometimes send his own guardian angel on missions of prayer or would receive messages through the angels of those who were praying for him. This tender devotion was practical and personal.

This prayer reflects his relationship with these heavenly protectors:

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom the Loving and Heavenly Father has entrusted my soul, enlighten me, guard me, guide me this day and always.

You are a gift from my Heavenly Father in heaven, assigned to walk beside me from my first breath until my last. Help me to know God’s will clearly. Protect me from physical harm and, even more, from spiritual danger.

When temptation comes, strengthen me. When discouragement weighs on me, lift my spirit. When I am confused about the right path, show me the way.

I entrust to your watchful care my family and all those I love. Watch over them as you watch over me, that together we may one day praise the tender mother of God and the Holy Trinity in heaven forever.

Good angel, remain at my side. Glory be to the Heavenly Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Practical suggestion: Memorize this short prayer or keep it near your bed. Many find it helpful to pray it in the morning upon waking and in the evening before sleep.

Who was Saint Padre Pio?

padre pio

Padre Pio, also known as Francesco Forgione, was born on May 25, 1887, in Pietrelcina, Italy.

He was born into a poor and humble family. To earn enough money to secure a decent education for his son, his father traveled to Brazil and the United States to earn money.

Although he was not a good student, he learned enough to move ahead.

As a young child, Father Pio suffered from poor health. His physical affliction continued to plague him most of his life.

From a very young age, Father Pio devoted himself to a life of poverty and prayer.

His dream was to become a Capuchin- a religious order that followed the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi.

In 1910, he was ordained a priest. His name was changed to Pio.

On September 23, 1968, Father Pio stepped out of his body and entered the Kingdom of God.

Pope John Paul ii declared him a Saint in June 2002.

According to Rev. Jude Winkler, Father Pio's greatest wish was to “suffer for his sins and the sins of others so that they might turn to God.”

His life was defined by three distinctive elements:

  • Long hours in the confessional – Known as a “Champion of the Confessional,” he led countless men and women to repentance and deeper union with God
  • Intense devotion to the Holy Eucharist – His Masses often lasted hours as he entered profound communion with the Lord Jesus Christ
  • Extraordinary spiritual gifts – Including the stigmata, reported bilocation, and the ability to read souls during confession

Bilocation

Early on in his religious vocation, Father Pio displayed signs of having extraordinary spiritual gifts.

In addition to communicating with Jesus, angels, and saints, he possessed the ability to be in two places at once—bilocation.

Stigmata

On September 20, 1918, while making his thanksgiving after Mass, Padre Pio received the visible stigmata. The wounds appeared in his hands, feet, and side—the same wounds that Jesus bore on the cross. Medical doctors examined these wounds over five months and concluded they had no natural explanation. Professor Jorge Festa stated that “The stigmata's of Padre Pio had an origin which scientific knowledge was very far from being able to explain.”

For approximately fifty years, his body bore these five wounds of Christ crucified. Witnesses reported that the blood flowing from his wounds carried a fragrance like perfume or flowers. This made him a powerful witness to Christ's Passion and established him as an intercessor for those suffering in body and spirit.

Padre Pio- The Healer of Soul, Body and Mind

Father Pio was known as a spiritual advisor and healer. He could see and feel the suffering of others without receiving direct information from them.

Many of Father Pio’s followers believe that he received the information directly from God.

One of many stories revealing his divine healing power occurred in 1949. A man had lost his right eye during an explosion. A few days later, Father Pio went to visit him in the hospital.

When the doctors removed his bandages, they were astonished to discover that his eye had grown back.

Dearest Padre Pio, we appeal to you with sincere faith and compassion, seeking your miraculous intercession and healing for our loved ones.

Saint Padre Pio-Spiritual Guide

Seeking spiritual guidance, a person approached Padre Pio and asked him, “Father, how can you distinguish what comes from the heart and is inspired by Our Lord and that which instead is inspired by the devil?

Padre Pio replied the following:

“You will distinguish it, always by this:

"The spirit of God is a spirit of peace, and also in the case of grave sin, it makes us feel tranquil, humble, confident, and this is due precisely to His mercy.

"The spirit of the demon, on the contrary, excites, exasperates, makes us in our sorrow feel something like anger against ourselves, whereas our first charity must be to ourselves, and so if certain thoughts agitate you, this agitation never comes from God, who gives tranquility, being the Spirit of Peace. Such agitation comes from the devil.”

Inspirational Sayings of Padre Pio

-"Remember: the evil-doer who is loathed to do wrong is nearer to God than the upright man who hesitates to do good."

-"You cannot expect God to work wonders where there is no faith."

-"Fear is a far greater evil than evil itself."

-"Pray, hope and don't worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer."

-The above information comes from a book called Counsels Exhortations Of Padre Pio Of Pietrelcina and Padre Pio by Rev. Jude Winkler

Saint Padre Pio, pray for us.
