Virgin Mary and Jesus
As Mary climbed the hill of Golgotha, she could feel the grief and desperation weighing her down. Weeping silently, she approached the cross where her son had been nailed to. With trembling hands, she reached out slowly to touch his feet.
Although she was aware that the crucifixion was part of the reason why he came into the world, she could not help feeling his pain and suffering. If possible, she would have traded places with him in order to stop his agony.
However, prayer was the only option she had. As she stood there devastated and with tears in her eyes, she closed her eyes and prayed.
When she opened her eyes to glance at her beloved son, she noticed a serpent moving slowly up the cross towards her son’s feet. She grabbed it quickly and held it in her hand. Her gentle hand had immobilized it.
She wiped the tears from her face and said calmly. “You have come to do harm to my son’s soul, but I will not allow you. I am here to protect him. From darkness you came, and to darkness you will returned.” When she placed the serpent down, it moved swiftly into a hole in the ground and vanished.
It was Lucifer. He had transformed himself into a serpent. For years, he had been attempting to poison or corrupt Jesus’ soul, but was unsuccessful. Jesus' faith in God was impenetrable. Seeing him nailed to the cross and vulnerable, he felt that it was the perfect opportunity to attack. However, Mary, his beloved mother, had intervened.
Lifting her eyes toward her son, she noticed that he had been staring at her with loving eyes. Sweat and blood were streaming down his face. The final moment was approaching. In a voice that was barely audible, Jesus addressed his mother.
"Do not weep for me; for soon I will be with my Father in heaven. You are the mother of all humanity. Love and protect the children of God, the same way you loved and protected me. You possess the key that opens the door to new beginnings. Show them the way. Thank you, mother."
With his eyes facing the heavens, Jesus said his last words, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. It is finished...into your hands I commit my spirit!"
It was over. Jesus' spirit had stepped out of the body.
Staring at her son's lifeless body, she knew that his mission had been completed. He was on his way to be with his Father.
His comforting words had given her the strength she needed to carry on. Her mission had just begun. She would protect and love all of God's children. Moreover, she would show them the way to new beginnings. She was the mother of all humanity.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Virgin Mary, help me to push away all poisonous thoughts from my heart and mind, and open the door for me to a new beginning. Amen
