The Innocence of Childhood
Jesus said the following:
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Shush…and listen. Do you hear the sound? No, it is not the sound of laughter. It is the weeping sound of children from around the world. It is the sound of hunger, fear and desperation.
As we climb into a comfortable bed, with clean sheets, fluffy pillows and a full stomach, many children are sleeping on streets or on cold floors with empty bellies. While, others are hiding in a dark corner petrified waiting for the abuser to steal their innocence from them once again.
Recently, an eight-year old boy went missing while walking home from day camp. It was his first time walking home alone. Missing person signs were posted in the Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn, New York where he lived.
Hoping and praying for the safe return of the innocent child, the community waited anxiously for some news. Not once did anyone foresee what would happen next.
After reviewing neighborhood video camera recordings and diligent police work, the culprit was found. However, where was little Leiby Kletzky? Did the culprit have him locked away in a closet where he was crying and wanting to go home, or was he hiding under the bed? Where exactly was Leiby?
The most horrendous part of the story was not that little Leiby was locked away in a closet or hiding under a bed. Instead, it was that some of his body parts were discovered in the culprit’s freezer, while the rest was in the trash in another neighborhood.
A deranged man butchered and mutilated an innocent child. Although his external appearance does not reveal any signs of indecency, it is important for everyone to remember that evil comes in many different forms.
This man is the face of evil. A man who possesses a diabolic mind and soul. A man who committed the worst crime-a crime against an innocent and defenseless child.
Just like Leiby, children are being mutilated in more than one way around the globe. Every second a child somewhere around the world is experiencing the most horrendous atrocities imaginable. Children are being kidnapped, tortured, beaten, raped, sold, starved, disfigured, stabbed, shot and killed.
When will this stop? Remember Jesus' words, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven." -Matthew 18:10
Love and protect the children for they are our future.
Update: December 14, 2012
Today, twenty angels marched through the gates of heaven and were embraced by God.
Eleven days before Christmas, a young man walked into a Connecticut elementary school and opened fire taking the lives of innocent human beings. Twenty of them were innocent, defenseless children between the ages of 5 to 10 years old.
The holiday season is considered a time of much celebration, love and joy. It is a time where wishes are fulfilled, and children wait eagerly for wish gifts. However, this year in Newton, Connecticut things will be different. Many of the children from Sandy Hook Elementary School will not be returning home to celebrate the holiday season. This year, sadness and tears will replace laughter and joy.
To the families of the deceased, and the entire Newton community, my prayers go out to all.
Children Live What They Learn
When Children live with criticism, they learn to condemn,
When children live with hostility, they learn to fight,
When children live with ridicule, they learn to be shy,
When children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty,
When children live with tolerance, they learn to be patient,
When children live with encouragement, they learn confidence,
When children live with security, they learn to have faith,
When children live with fairness, they learn justice,
When children live with praise, they learn to appreciate,
When children live with approval, they learn to like themselves,
When children live with happiness, they learn to smile,
When children live with acceptance and friendship, they learn to find Love in the world.
